Short Bio
Alexandru Paler (22/10/1983)
I studied at the Computer Science Faculty (taking all lectures in German language) from Transilvania University from Brasov [1], Romania, in 2006, writing an external diploma thesis. I have started my master course at the University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule) Wiesbaden [2], Germany.
During my studies I have been attracted by the image processing area. My experience in this domain is based on the applications and projects I developed:
- A desktop application having image processing filters implemented (blur, sharp, object detection, image segmentation, perspective correction). This was a course project. (implemented using C++)
- My diploma paper[3], Interaktionsfreie Kamerajustierung für ein tetraoptisches System zur 3D Navigation in der Medizin, was focused on developing an efficient algorithm that is able to coordinate the move of 4 cameras to locate a calibration model (implemented using C++). The diploma paper was written and developed at FH Wiesbaden, Germany having Prof. Dr. D. Richter as a supervisor.[4].
- A desktop application that based on fisheye images could calculate the amount of shadow the objects cast in reality on solar panels (implemented using C#).
The first time I came into contact with panoramic images was when I wanted to take pictures from on-top of a mountain. I heard about Panotools before but because of my limited photographic experience I did not use it.
School and my previous working places have kept me away from the open source community. Now I want to contribute and continue learning also by being involved in projects that can have a non-commercial purpose.
I chose Panotools because I have noticed and considered that panoramic images can benefit from the help of digital image processing. I am sure that I can learn a lot of things by working on this kind of projects. Improving the matching of images through heuristic methods seems interesting and looking for a solution represents also a challenging part of the project. Working on this project will be a full-time work load (40hours/week).
I am applying for the SoC Feature Matching project.
